A total spontaneous lesson happened today at work while I read to a group of kindergarteners!
I read the book "the cow says 'cluck cluck'".It's a book about a cow that lost his "moo" and he journeys around the farm to find the animal who has taken it.
After I read the book I asked the children "why do you think the chicken took the cows moo?" And one little boy confidently said, "because he wanted to be a cow."
Smart kid, I jumped on his thought and said, "well why can't the chicken be a cow?"
The kids loudly declared, "because he's a chicken!"
I then said, "right! And chickens give us eggs to eat right?"
Kids: "yes!"
Me: "and the cow gives us milk?"
Kids: "yes!"
Me: "can I get the eggs from a cow or milk from a chicken?"
Kids said enthusiastically, "NOOOOOOOO!"
Me: "y'all are right! The chicken can't do his job if he acts like someone he's not."
One kid then jumped up and said, "he should be happy to be a chicken!"
This reminded me how we are as the body of Christ. If everyone would stop worrying and complaining about another persons calling or gifts we can be confident and powerful in the place that God has created to be and to do! It reminds of John 21 when Peter was concerned with Johns calling. Jesus simply turned to Peter and said, "why does it even matter what he does? You just follow me!"
As a teacher we have the difficult job of guiding the youth to learn and grow in their desire to keep learning for themselves, while praying that their learning leads to salvation through Christ alone! This is not an easy calling, but so worth it when you see a child get it. :)
“Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His bosom at the supper and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?" So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?" Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" Therefore this saying went out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?"”
