"Feed The Birds"

The song "Feed the birds" from Mary Poppins came to my mind today and I keep singing one part over and over again.

"Though her words are simple and few, listen. Listen, she's calling to you! Feed the birds, toppins a bag! Toppins, toppins, toppins, a bag!"

As I listened intently to all of the lyrics of this song I realized a hidden meaning, which I'm sure I'm years late on!

But my heart became heavy as listened and realized that this song is not just talking about feeding the birds. Where is the bird lady sitting? On the "stairs of the wall",  which is the cathedral. She's calling to the people inside the church to LISTEN. Not just for the birds, but for the people outside of the stone walls. She's calling them to feed those that are hungry (the children and poor people). She's calling them by sitting outside on the steps and using the little money that she has to feed the birds.

I began to pray and praise God after this realization because that's exactly what Jesus commands us to do as the church! Not to sit inside the building, separated from the world. But to GO out to the people, love them, relate to them, sit with them, serve them, teach them, and share with them that God loves them just as they are!

Read John 1:35-51 and you'll see how Jesus mobilizers his disciples and followers. He calls them by going out to them, relating to them, sending them a relational invitation so that they can then lead their social networking circles to follow Jesus. And most importantly, Jesus PRAYED for his disciples and followers to come to him and to bring others to him to be saved! Jesus LISTENED to the people, Jesus SAW the people, and Jesus WENT to the people. Jesus is the model of how we are to be relational in mobilizing people today! And we have even greater social networking connections to the world!!!

God is up to something big!!!! He's so good and faithful!!! His love never fails!!! Thank you Father, you are a good good father!!! ❤️

“Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?" He said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which translated means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter). The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow Me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote-Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!" Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these." And He said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."”
